Nickel 200 also called alloy 200 or UNS N02200 is a seamless tubular product built from commercially pure nickel (around 99.6%), with only small traces of iron, manganese, copper, carbon, silicon, and sulfur making up the rest. Three things, mainly — its corrosion resistance is hard to beat, it stays stable at elevated temperatures, and its electrical and thermal conductivity numbers are among the best you will find in a pure nickel product.
Nickel 200 pipe, when exposed to caustic alkalis, seawater, neutral/reducing media, and de-aerated acids, forms a protective layer of oxide, which prevents corrosion. Due to these characteristics, it is extensively used in industrial applications containing harsh environments and elevated temperatures. Its commercially pure composition gives it advantages over alloyed nickels in purity-sensitive and electrically demanding environments. Alloy 200 Seamless Pipe Manufacturing Process
To manufacture nickel 200 seamless pipe, we take a round bar and pass it through a raw material inspection. Then, we peel and cut the bar according to the length required. Pickling, hot extruded, heating, centring, and grinding come next. The bar is then elongated and shaped using cold rolling or cold drawing. The last steps include heat-treating, straightening, and cutting to size. At the end, the pipe is sent for inspection.
Key Features of Nickel Alloy 200 Pipe
Ni 200 pipe has 5 main features that make it different from other alloys. They are:
- Excellent Corrosion Resistance: The 99.6% nickel content in this alloy makes it highly resistant to caustic alkalis and reducing environments.
- High Thermal and Electrical Conductivity: Since this material has high purity, it is well known for its high thermal and electrical conductivity.
- Magnetic Permeability: This alloy is ferromagnetic under room temperatures, and the magnetic behaviour changes at high temperatures. Because of this, it is used in a lot of electrical devices.
- Fabricability: Alloy 200 is easy to work with, has a low work hardening rate, and can be cold formed, bent, and drawn to required configurations with ease.
- Suitability for Purity-sensitive Applications: This alloy has about 99.6% commercially pure nickel in it, which lowers the risk of metal ion contamination by a lot. This means that the pipe can be used in places where the alloy's purity is important.
