After that, we conduct intermediate annealing to restore ductility and enhance corrosion resistance. The final step is to straighten and smooth the surface before we send it for testing. What are the Key Features of Alloy 20 Seamless Pipe?
Alloy 20 pipe has become a favourable choice in the metal industry due to 4 main characteristics: Resistance to chloride stress corrosion cracking, Fabricability and mechanical properties, Excellent in resisting corrosion to hot sulfuric acid, and Minimal carbide precipitation during welding.
- Resistance to Chloride Stress Corrosion Cracking: The high nickel content in the alloy (32-38%), along with molybdenum, chromium, and copper, makes it excellent resistance to pitting and stress corrosion cracking, as it forms a protective oxide film in such environments.
- Fabricability and Mechanical Properties: Even though it has such chemical properties, the UNS N08020 seamless pipe remains ductile. It also has high strength and temperature stability.
- Excellent in Resisting Corrosion to Hot Sulfuric Acid: The copper content (3-4%) in this alloy makes it highly resistant to sulfuric acid.
- Minimal Carbide Precipitation During Welding: Since alloy 20 pipe has columbium (niobium), which stabilises the alloy by reacting with carbon, it can easily prevent harmful chromium carbides from forming at grain boundaries.
