ASTM A213 SMO 254 Seamless Tube Manufacturer in China

We are Zhejiang Xintongda Special Steel (XTD), a top manufacturer and supplier of SMO 254 seamless tubes in Songyang, China. The SMO 254 Seamless Tube (also called the alloy 254 tube or 6Mo tube) is a super-austenitic stainless steel tube that can handle very harsh conditions. It consists of chromium (19.5-20.5%), nickel (17.5-18.5%), molybdenum (6-6.5%), nitrogen (0.18–0.22%), and the remainder of other elements. This chemical combination gives the tube immense strength (higher than that of the 300 series stainless steels) and high ductility. Our production conforms to the industrial standard of ASTM A213, A269, ASME SA213, and EN 10216-5 standards.

It stays tough even when it's freezing and can handle extreme cryogenic temperatures well in oil and gas, desalination plants, marine, and power generation. We can handle both small and large projects. Our minimum order quantity (MOQ) is only 200kg, but there is no minimum for stock items. For delivery, we supply within 1 week for stock or 15-60 days for production orders. We can serve the global market because we can supply 25,000 tons a year.

Stainless Steel SMO 254 Seamless Tube

Manufacturing Process of SMO 254 Seamless Tube

We make the SMO 254 tubing by heating a solid stainless steel billet and then piercing it into a hollow shell. After that, the tube is cold-drawn to get exact dimensions and tight tolerances. Finally, it is solution-annealed to keep its resistance to corrosion. Before testing, the last step is to straighten and pickle the surface. What are the Key Features of the SMO 254 Tube?

The SMO 254 Seamless Tube manufacturer industry relies on this alloy because of 4 specific characteristics: resistance to pitting, weldability, general corrosion resistance, and superior strength.

  • Excellent Resistance to Pitting and Crevice Corrosion: The alloy has a high molybdenum content (around 6%) and nitrogen (0.18-0.22%). This helps the tube to resist pitting and crevice corrosion in chloride-rich environments like seawater.
  • Good Weldability: The high amount of nickel and low amount of carbon make the tube more ductile, which prevents cracking during the process of welding.
  • High Resistance to General Corrosion: With high levels of chromium (around 20%) and nitrogen, this tube can easily withstand acid solutions where standard steel would degrade rapidly.
  • Higher Strength than Conventional Austenitic Stainless Steels: Nitrogen is the key addition here. It strengthens the metal matrix and gives the SMO UNS S31254 tube a yield strength that is higher than common grades like 316L or 317L.

Alloy 254 SMO Seamless Tube Equivalent Grades

The SMO 254 tube is most commonly identified by its Unified Numbering System designation, UNS S31254. In European standards, it is known by the Werkstoff Number 1.4547.
