ASTM A213 317L Stainless Steel Seamless Tube Manufacturer in China
We, Zhejiang Xintongda Special Steel (XTD), are a leading China-based manufacturer and global supplier of high-performance Stainless steel 317L seamless tube. This tube is a low-carbon, molybdenum-alloyed austenitic tube. We manufacture this tube in compliance with the ASTM A213 standard. SS 317L tube offers enhanced resistance to chemical attack compared to standard grades. This tube contains 18–20% chromium, 11–15% nickel and 3-4% molybdenum, which provides better high-temperature strength. It has a minimum tensile strength of 515 MPa. This low-carbon (max 0.03%) version of 317 stainless steel prevents sensitisation during welding. This makes it better than its standard grade 317. 317L Stainless steel tubing is preferred for its exceptional pitting resistance in chloride environments and high-temperature stability. This makes it suitable for FGD systems, pulp bleaching, and chemical processing. We hold multiple international certifications and have an annual production capacity of 25,000 tonnes. Steps Involved in Manufacturing 317L Stainless Steel Tubing
Being a trusted 317L stainless steel tube manufacturer, we make these tubes with high-quality solid billets. These billets are first heated and pierced to make a hollow shell. Then they are precisely cold-drawn or cold-rolled. These steps ensure that each tube has the right size and a smooth surface finish. Lastly, each tube is solution annealed at temperatures between 1040°C and 1120°C. This is followed by rapid quenching. We perform strict hydrostatic and non-destructive testing to ensure every tube is leak-proof. For details on our manufacturing process, please refer to our manufacturing page.
What are the Features of Alloy 317L Tubing?
317L stainless steel seamless tubing has 5 main features:
- Corrosion Resistance: The 317L stainless steel tube provides superior resistance to sulfuric, acetic, and phosphoric acids. The high molybdenum content (3-4%) prevents localised pitting and crevice corrosion in harsh chemical environments.
- High Strength: This tube maintains a minimum yield strength of 205 MPa even under heavy mechanical stress. This strength is due to its nickel-rich austenitic structure.
- Good Ductility: The 317L SS tubing remains highly formable due to the stable austenitic grain structure maintained during the manufacturing process. This allows it to be bent or coiled without cracking.
- Excellent Weldability: TP317L is easy to weld using standard fusion methods without losing its properties. It exists as a low-carbon alloy to prevent intergranular corrosion in the heat-affected zone after welding.
- High-Temperature Stability: The 317L stainless steel tubing performs reliably at elevated temperatures without losing its mechanical integrity. This stability exists because the alloy is designed to resist creep and oxidation better than the 304 or 316 grades.

Frequently Asked Questions
-
What is a Stainless Steel 317L tube?Stainless Steel 317L tube, otherwise referred to as UNS S31703, is a low-carbon molybdenum-bearing austenitic stainless steel tube. It is one of the grades of the SS seamless tube. It is known for its superior corrosion resistance, especially to pitting and crevice corrosion in chloride environments.
-
Difference between Stainless Steel 317L and 317 tube? The difference between Stainless steel 317L and 317 tube is that SS 317L has a lower carbon content (max 0.03%) than SS 317 to resist corrosion after welding. SS 317 offers higher strength but risks intergranular corrosion.
-
What is the heat treating temp, tensile strength and yield strength of SS 317L tube? The heat treatment for SS 317L tube is solution annealing at 1040–1120°C (1900–2050°F), not responsive to hardening. Tensile strength is 515 MPa minimum, and yield strength is 205 MPa min.
