ASTM A213 SMO 654 Seamless Tube Manufacturer
We, Xintongda Special Steel (XTD), are a China-based leading manufacturer and supplier of SMO 654 seamless tubes. Also known as Alloy 654, this is a high-performance super austenitic stainless steel tube consisting of 24-26% chromium, 21-23% nickel, 7-8% molybdenum, 0.45-0.55% nitrogen, 0.02% carbon, with a balance of iron and traces of other elements. We manufacture our 654 SMO tubes in accordance with ASTM A213, A269, A312 and EN 10216-5 standards. The alloy 654 is highly resistant to general corrosion, stress corrosion cracking, pitting, and crevice corrosion, with a PREN value of around 56.1. Due to the low carbon content, this tube also provides intergranular corrosion resistance and prevents sensitisation. These characteristics make the 654 SMO tube suitable for the food processing industry, pulp & paper industry, refining industry, and other crucial applications.
Here at XTD, we have been manufacturing and supplying high-quality seamless tubes for 4 decades and are multiple international certified. Our annual supply capacity is 25,000 tons, and we deliver in-stock products within a week and production orders in 15-60 days.

SMO 654 Stainless Steel Seamless Tube Manufacturing Process
To make our SMO Alloy 654 Tubes, we first heat a solid round bar of the alloy and then pierce it into a hollow shell. After that, we hot-work and cold-draw this shell to the right size. The next step is to do solution annealing, which will stabilise the alloy’s microstructure and make it more resistant to corrosion. In the final step, we pickle and straighten the tube before sending it for testing. You can learn about the whole manufacturing process by simply visiting this page.
What are the Key Characteristics of SMO 654 Stainless Steel Tubes?
Our 654 SMO tube is a proven industrial choice offering 4 key characteristics: high nitrogen content, wide temperature operating range, good oxidation resistance, and superior chloride corrosion resistance.
- High Nitrogen Content: The nitrogen stabilises the austenitic microstructure, increases strength through solid solution strengthening, and improves the alloy’s pitting resistance equivalent.
- Wide Temperature Operating Range: The fully austenitic microstructure and the high alloy stability allow the SMO 654 tube to operate in a wide range of temperatures in highly corrosive environments.
- Good Oxidation Resistance: The high chromium content present in the SMO alloy 654 tube forms a protective oxide layer when exposed to oxygen at an elevated temperature, which results in high oxidation resistance.
- Superior Chloride Corrosion Resistance: The reason behind the alloy 654 tube’s high chloride corrosion resistance is the combination of chromium, molybdenum, and nitrogen. Chromium fights general corrosion, molybdenum resists pitting and crevice corrosion, and nitrogen maintains stability in chloride-rich environments.
