ASTM A312 Stainless Steel 316LN Seamless Pipe Manufacturer

We are Zhejiang Xintongda Special Steel (XTD), a leading manufacturer in China and a global supplier of 316LN stainless steel seamless pipe. This pipe is a low-carbon, nitrogen-enhanced, austenitic stainless steel pipe. This combination of low carbon (≤ 0.035%) and high nitrogen (0.10%–0.16%) makes the pipe stronger and less likely to become sensitised (a form of intergranular corrosion). We manufacture this SMLS pipe in full compliance with the ASTM, EN, JIS, GB, GOST standards. The 316LN stainless steel pipe is widely used due to its enhanced resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion. This is achieved through the addition of molybdenum (2-3%) and nitrogen. Our ASTM A312 TP316LN pipe is designed for demanding applications such as chemical processing, oil refining, marine engineering, and manufacturing medical instruments. We are a multiple internationally certified company and we make sure that every pipe goes through strict quality checks before it is sent out for delivery. We also offer competitive pricing for our SS 316LN pipe.

We ensure our pipes meet the following specifications:

SS 316LN Seamless Pipe Manufacturing Process

The manufacturing process for SS 316LN seamless pipe starts with the preparation of a solid round steel billet. This billet is heated to the required hot-working temperature. Then it is pierced to make a hollow shell. To get the final dimensions, this shell is rolled and drawn over a mandrel. Finally, the pipe is heat-treated (solution annealed) to restore its corrosion resistance and mechanical properties before being cut and rigorously tested. What are the Key Features of 316LN Stainless Steel Pipe?

316LN stainless steel pipe has 4 important features. These are corrosion resistance, high strength, high-temperature performance, and good weldability and formability.

  • Corrosion Resistance: This pipe has the ability to withstand degradation in highly corrosive environments. The molybdenum content (2-3%) enhances resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion. The low-carbon content (≤0.035%) minimizes carbide precipitation during welding.
  • High Strength: The pipe has excellent mechanical strength and superior yield and tensile properties. This high strength is a direct result of the intentional addition of nitrogen (0.10%–0.16%) as an alloying element. This provides solid solution strengthening to the austenitic structure.
  • High-Temperature Performance: The 316LN pipe maintains its strength and stability even when exposed to elevated temperatures. Its resistance to creep and good oxidation resistance at temperatures up to 870°C (1600°F) make it reliable in demanding thermal applications.
  • Good Weldability and Formability: It is easy to join the pipe using standard welding methods. It can readily be formed into complex shapes. The low-carbon and nitrogen-rich composition prevents sensitisation. This ensures that the pipe stays strong and maintains corrosion resistance after fabrication.

316LN Seamless Stainless Steel Pipe Industrial Applications

This molybdenum-bearing austenitic stainless steel pipe is used in 5 important industrial applications. These include:

Food Processing Equipment

Chemical Plants

Medical Instruments

Marine Environments

Oil & Petroleum Refining

Food Processing Equipment

Food Processing Equipment

The 316LN pipe is used to transport and process food and beverages, like in tanks, valves, and pipelines. Its superior resistance to corrosion keeps the products clean and safe from contamination.
Chemical Processing

Chemical Plants

This pipe is an important part of chemical reactors, heat exchangers and piping systems that deal with harsh, corrosive chemicals. The pipe performs reliably in these harsh environments as it is stable and can handle exposure to many acids and halides.
Medical Instruments

Medical Instruments

This stainless steel pipe is utilized in the manufacturing of surgical instruments and hospital equipment. Its non-reactive surface and ease of sterilisation are important in maintaining aseptic conditions.
Marine Environments

Marine Environments

The pipe is used in building ships, offshore structures, and systems for cooling seawater. The molybdenum and nitrogen content make it very resistant to corrosion caused by chloride, which is common in saltwater.
Oil & Gas

Oil & Petroleum Refining

The SS 316LN pipe is important for transporting crude oil, gases and refined products through different processing units, such as cracking and distillation. It works well under high pressure and heat because it is strong, can handle elevated temperatures, and resists corrosion.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is 316LN pipe better than 316L?
Yes. 316LN pipe is considered better than 316L due to the added nitrogen (0.10%–0.16%). This improves strength and pitting resistance.
  • Is 316LN pipe good for chloride service?
Yes, 316LN pipe suits moderate chloride service well. It has improved corrosion resistance over 316L.
  • What is the maximum service temperature for 316LN pipe?
The maximum temperature for continuous use of 316LN seamless pipe is about 870°C (1600°F). Above this, oxidation and scaling increase. Long-term exposure between 425°C and 815°C should be avoided to maintain corrosion resistance
