ASTM A789 Duplex Steel UNS S32205 Seamless Tubes Manufacturer
We produce durable Duplex Steel UNS S32205 Seamless tubes at Zhejiang Xintongda Special Steel Manufacturing Co., Ltd, serving as a global supplier of high-performance tubes. Duplex 2205 has a mixed ferritic–austenitic structure and contains about 22% chromium, 5% nickel, 3% molybdenum, with added nitrogen. Our manufacturing follows ASTM A789 and equivalent international standards including EN 10216-5, JIS G3463, and others. The material conforms to UNS S32205 designation. Our alloy offers a PREN (Pitting Resistance Equivalent Number) of approximately 35-38 which provides better resistance to chloride pitting in marine and chemical environments. This helps ensure that 22Cr duplex stainless steel performs at its best. This material is a suitable choice over standard grades as it has a higher yield strength and is much more resistant to chloride stress corrosion. Some of the most important features are high thermal conductivity and low thermal expansion. These tubes excel in seawater systems, chemical processing, and oil field tubing. We offer competitive pricing for duplex 2205 tubes. Minimum order requirements are 200kg, while stock items have no MOQ. Annual capacity reaches 25000 tons. Lead time is one week for stock or 15-60 days for production.

Manufacturing process of Alloy 2205 Duplex Tubes Explained
The first step of producing DSS 2205 is to melt the raw materials in an Electric Arc Furnace. Then, AOD refining is used to obtain the chemical balance. Hot-extruding and piercing solid billets deliver a tube that doesn't have any seams. After that, the tube is solution-annealed at 1040 °C. This makes sure that the ferrite and austenite phases are in the right balance. Check our detailed manufacturing process here.
What are the key characteristics of the Duplex 2205 Tube?
Choosing the right material requires understanding how the dual-phase structure provides a unique balance of properties. Duplex 2205 combines features of austenitic and ferritic steels. The tube is strong and resists harsh environments well.
- Corrosion Resistance: High chromium and molybdenum improve corrosion resistance. They help prevent chloride-induced stress corrosion cracking. This feature helps stop pitting and crevice corrosion. It works well in harsh chemical and marine environments where 316L often fails.
- Mechanical Properties: Added nitrogen increases strength. The yield strength is about twice that of standard austenitic stainless steels. High strength allows thinner walls. This reduces the weight and cost of tubing systems.
- Heat Treatment: The material is solution-annealed and quickly water-quenched at about 1040°C. This restores a balanced 50/50 mix of ferrite and austenite. Precise temperature control is important. It prevents brittle phases like sigma that reduce toughness.
- Elevated Temperature Resistance: The alloy stays stable up to 315°C. It also has higher thermal conductivity than austenitic stainless steels. The alloy heats and cools faster than austenitic stainless steel. This reduces thermal fatigue in applications with frequent temperature changes.
- Workability: The high strength requires more force for cold forming and drawing. Despite this, the material can still be welded easily using GTAW or GMAW. Controlling the heat during welding is important. It keeps the weld strong and resistant to corrosion.
What are the Equivalent Material for 2205 Duplex Tubes?
The UNS S32205 material is recognised globally under various standards, ensuring compatibility across international engineering projects. Understanding these equivalent designations is essential for global procurement and ensuring that project specifications meet local regulatory requirements.
