ASTM A213 TP304H Stainless Steel Seamless Pipe

TP304H Stainless Steel Seamless Pipe is an austenitic chromium-nickel stainless steel product. Zhejiang Xintongda Special Steel is a leading manufacturer and supplier of these seamless pipes. It is also referred to as UNS S30409, SA-213 TP304H, or 304H austenitic stainless. The alloy contains approximately 18–20% Cr, 8–10.5% Ni, 0.04–0.10% C, max 2% Mn, and max 1% Si. Production follows ASTM A213 / A312, using cold rolling, cold drawing, annealing, pickling, and straightening. The controlled carbon range separates TP304H from standard 304. It gives the pipe measurably better creep-rupture strength at high temperatures. Operating temperature ranges from -196°C to 800°C. We carry a 25,000-ton annual production capacity, with stock items shipping in around one week and custom production orders fulfilled in 15 to 60 days.

How TP304H Stainless Steel Seamless Pipe is Produced

Our TP304H stainless steel seamless pipe is made by adhering to strict manufacturing procedures. It starts with an austenitic chromium-nickel stainless steel ingot. Hot extrusion or piercing forms the seamless tube. Cold drawing, cold rolling, or pilgering then brings it to the required dimensions. Solution annealing stabilises the microstructure. The pipe is pickled for surface finish, straightened, and subjected to eddy-current testing and a hydrotest. It is then cut to length and packaged for dispatch. Key Features of TP304H Stainless Steel Seamless Pipe

Key features of TP304H seamless pipes are explained below.

  • Elevated-Temperature Creep Strength: Controlled carbon content of 0.04–0.10% provides better creep-rupture strength than standard 304 at service temperatures between 550°C and 750°C. This is the primary reason TP304H is specified over standard 304 in high-temperature applications.
  • Good Oxidation Resistance: The chromium-rich oxide scale holds up in continuous service to 800°C and intermittent service up to 870°C. No special coatings or liners are needed for standard oxidising environments within this range.
  • Excellent Weldability: TP304H is weldable by all common methods using matching filler metal. Post-weld solution annealing is not required for service within normal temperature limits, which simplifies fabrication.
  • Resistance to Carburisation: The grade handles carbon pickup reasonably well in hydrogen and ethylene cracking environments where service conditions are moderate. It is not designed for severe carburising service, but holds up where many standard grades would not.
  • Low-Temperature Toughness: The austenitic structure remains stable from cryogenic temperatures all the way up to 800°C. This makes TP304H suitable for systems that see wide temperature swings or dual hot-cold service.
  • Cost-Effective High-Temperature Solution: TP304H offers solid performance at elevated temperatures without the cost of nickel-base superalloys. For boiler superheater and reheater service in the 550–750°C range, it is often the most practical choice.

ASTM A213 TP304H Stainless Steel Seamless Pipe Equivalent Materials

TP304H Stainless Steel Seamless Pipe Industrial Applications

TP304H seamless pipe is used across power generation, refinery, petrochemical, and pulp industries where sustained elevated-temperature service is the requirement.

Boiler Superheater Tubes

Power Plant Steam Piping

Petrochemical and Refinery Service

Heat Exchanger Tubes

Process Piping in High-Temperature Service

Pulp and Paper Recovery Boilers

Boiler Superheater Tubes

Boiler Superheater Tubes

We supply TP304H tubes for utility and industrial boiler superheater and reheater sections. The grade handles metal temperatures up to 650°C in long-term service without significant creep degradation.
Power Plant Steam Piping

Power Plant Steam Piping

Our TP304H pipes are used in main steam and hot reheat lines in coal, biomass, and waste-to-energy plants. The combination of oxidation resistance and creep strength makes it a practical material for steam header piping at these temperatures.
Petrochemical and Refinery Service

Petrochemical and Refinery Service

We provide TP304H tubing for catalytic cracker overhead systems, ethylene plant convection sections, and hydrogen reformer outlet piping. These are high-temperature refinery applications where long service intervals matter.
Heat Exchanger Tubes

Heat Exchanger Tubes

Our tubes are used in shell-and-tube heat exchangers in chemical plants that run at elevated temperatures continuously. TP304H holds its mechanical properties better than standard 304 in these extended-service conditions.
Process Piping in High-Temperature Service

Process Piping in High-Temperature Service

We manufacture TP304H seamless pipes for chemical-process lines running at 550°C to 750°C. The UNS S30409 seamless pipe offers reliable performance for refinery high-temperature service without stepping up to more expensive alloys.
Pulp and Paper Recovery Boilers

Pulp and Paper Recovery Boilers

TP304H is used in recovery-boiler floor tubes and screen sections in pulp and paper mills. Thermal stability and oxidation resistance are the key properties needed, and this grade provides both.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What is the difference between TP304 and TP304H?
TP304H has a minimum carbon content of 0.04%, compared to TP304's maximum of 0.08%. The higher carbon in TP304H gives it better creep-rupture strength at elevated temperatures while keeping corrosion resistance in the same range.
  • What is the maximum service temperature of TP304H?
TP304H is rated for continuous service up to 800°C in oxidising atmospheres. Allowable design stresses apply up to approximately 815°C, depending on the relevant code case.
  • Is TP304H prone to sensitisation?
TP304H can sensitise during extended exposure in the 425–815°C range, as chromium carbides form at grain boundaries. For applications at risk, TP304L, TP321H, or TP347H are common alternatives worth considering.
  • What standards cover TP304H seamless tubes?
TP304H tubes are produced to ASTM A213 for boiler and heat exchanger service, and ASTM A312 for pressure pipe. The corresponding ASME code specifications are SA-213 and SA-312 for the UNS S30409 seamless pipe.
