Manufacturing Process of Stainless Steel 253MA Tubes
To make 253 MA [S30815] tubes, we start by heating and piercing a solid billet of that alloy to form a hollow shell. This shell then undergoes hot working, followed by cold-drawing/ cold-rolling to get its desired dimensions. Then, we perform controlled solution annealing, which retains its high-temperature strength and oxidation resistance. What are the Key Features of 253 MA SS Seamless Tubes?
There are 4 key features of SS 253 MA Tubes: high creep strength, high-temperature performance, excellent oxidation resistance, and good weldability.
- High Creep Strength: The nitrogen (0.14-0.2%) and carbon (0.05-0.10%) present in this alloy create fine particles inside it and lock dislocations to stop slow bending or stretching at elevated temperatures. This results in high creep strength.
- High-Temperature Performance: 253 MA tube uses a combination of rare earth metals, silicon (1.4-2%), and nitrogen to maintain structural integrity up to 1150 °C.
- Excellent Oxidation Resistance: The chromium (20-22%) content in this alloy forms a thin film called the outer chromia layer, and silicon creates a glass-like layer beneath it called the inner silica. The combination of these layers makes alloy 253 MA highly resistant to oxidation.
- Good Weldability: The 253 MA alloy is easily weldable because of the small amount of ferrite and high amount of nitrogen content present in it. These make the tube less prone to cracking during the welding process.
